Four days until Christmas but it’s not too late to create a meaningful gift for a loved one.
One of the best Christmas gifts my grandmothers ever received from me (according to them) was a jar of memories.
For one, I labeled the mason jar Why I Love You. Inside, she discovered 52 slips of paper (1 a week) with handwritten specific ways I loved her.
For the other, I labeled the jar I Remember When. I came up with about 30 specific memories that included us both. She enjoyed reading one a day for an entire month.
The advantages of a meaningful gift:
- While recalling and writing, memories will stir, causing a fresh sense of appreciation to rise and flow onto the page.
- It’s a gift that keeps giving.
- Inexpensive slips of paper emerge as priceless.
What a great idea, Cathy! I wish my grandmothers were still here so I could do that for them. Of course, I know it'll work for anyone, so I'll have to work on it for my family members for next year. And maybe one day I'll get one back.
I love you and am thankful to have you in my life, sweet friend.
Merry Christmas!
I have no doubt that everyone who knows you would have many slips of thankfulness to slip in your mason jar. 🙂
Love you too!
We're keeping Christmas gifts on the "small but special" side this year & I think jars of memories might be the perfect accompaniment to the baby foot ornaments I'm making! What a great idea! I know it will be just as special to parents & grandparents as it will my brother across the country in A School! Yes!! Thank you Cathy!!
Hi Heather! How ironic is this? I'm posting tomorrow on the Mason Jar idea again with a little change-up. I realized the last time I posted on the idea was a few years ago and I didn't want the idea to be lost. 🙂 Thanks so much for sharing. Love your idea!
