When Cathy Baker mentioned her idea to me of vacation-focused devotionals, my reaction was overwhelmingly positive!
First, Cathy is refreshing as a sister in Christ and as a writer. Her perspective is genuine, creative, and grounded in God’s Word. I visit her blog whenever I need a fresh thought on my spiritual life. And her love for the Lord and for others, as well as her funny-bone, inspires me all the time in our friendship.
Second, whenever I have an opportunity to get away, I desperately want a break from routine, but I’m not interested in a “getaway” from God! I love the idea of having a special devotional just for those times when I’m looking for a change from daily life. I always want to include God even when I’m on retreat or vacation, and this unconventional little book is just the ticket. Cathy’s careful, but delightful approach to God’s Word and spiritual life is a perfect match for this.
She’s a gentle soul willing to speak truth and light in an often dark world.
What an inspiring devotional. As an avid beach lover I ordered Cathy Baker’s ebook. But I didn’t want to wait for my vacation to read it. It’s like a breath of ocean breeze. We often wear ourselves out getting to the beach and then rush to get in all the activities. Her words remind us to slow down and enjoy the creation that God has provided with a daily devotional and simple practical ways to appreciate your time of respite.
You could easily apply this book to a mountain vacation or even a Staycation! Can’t wait to go on our beach trip now.
What a precious little devotional guide to use while vacationing at the beach! From the day you arrive and unpack the car until the day you leave, the author gives insightful suggestions that encourage the reader to experience the majesty of God, giving rest to a weary soul. Pauses for the Vacationing Soul… I can only imagine how valuable this little nugget will become to me during my trip to the beach this summer. Hopefully this is the first in a collection of destination devotionals…. How about Pauses….: Mountans? Camping? Cruising?I’m looking forward to the next volume!
I loved Pauses for the Vacationing Soul. It’s a beautifully-written devotional designed to enrich vacation time. This sensory approach touches the deepest part of us. The author shares her sensory beach experiences in a succinct manner, ties it back to scripture, and challenges the reader to see God in our vacationing experiences.
This one-week devotional could be used year after year without becoming routine. It will vary as much as our experiences do. And if you’re not vacationing at a beach, it’s easily applicable to your setting.
How awesome it would be to share with others during your vacation time together!

While You Wait Outside Hospital Doors for a Loved One
It's a helpless feeling, isn't it? Leaving loved ones on the stoop of hospital doors, entrusting healthcare workers to fill in the gaps we want to fill but can't. Lives lost, dream weddings postponed, jobs eliminated, and the inability to enter health facilities with loved ones being admitted, are just some of the situations we find ourselves...
Coming to Our {Summer} Senses // Seeking A Spiritually Sweet Palate
On our way back from Boone NC this weekend, we made two stops. First, the Dogwood Café, where I enjoyed this beaut of a drink... Vanilla and Brown Sugar Latte. A little further down the mountain, we stopped by a popular roadside market that was chock full of preserves, jellies, fruit, and my favorite—mountain honey, with the honeycomb⎯four to...
