Simple {Meaningful} Ways to Celebrate Christmas…Day 18

by Cathy Baker

{ Day 18 }

You’ve done a lot of giving these past couple of weeks. Now it’s time to do a little receiving. After all, isn’t that what Christmas is really all about? Receiving the One who came to rescue us and make us His own?

So, today, let us consider receiving these promises, not simply reading or believing them but making them at home in our hearts:

  • “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels
    nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither
    height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to
    separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38,39

  • “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will
    forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
  • “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who
    love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

  • “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am
    your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my
    righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
  • “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The
    one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever
    lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26

Is there a particular promise that means the most to you today?

{ Day 17 }

We’re all familiar with the beautiful hymn, Silent Night. Tonight, let’s put this into practice by unplugging all electronic distractions—TV’s, phones, iPads, laptops, etc.

Silence is often seen as intrusion in our culture today but in reality, it is our most gracious guest.

Embrace—enjoy. Savor conversations, dust off favorite books, play board games, break out the puzzle or break out in song!

What will be the most difficult thing for you to unplug tonight?

“Silent solitude makes true speech possible and personal. If I am not
in touch with my own belovedness, then I cannot touch the sacredness of
others. If I am estranged from myself, I am likewise a stranger to
others.”

Let’s clean out our closets! Donate clothes, shoes, toys, and household gifts. Our things not only bless the recipients but also supply much needed jobs for many stores such as Goodwill.

In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must
help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself
said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’

Acts 20:35

Quiet nights are vital for busy days. Pop some corn, turn off all the lights except for your Christmas tree or candles, and enjoy your favorite Christmas movie. After the movie, embrace the silence for awhile, thanking God for this season—for His Son, Jesus.

What is your favorite Christmas movie?

Be still and know that I am God.
Psalm 46:10
