Dream A Little Dream With Me

Okay, I realize the song title is a bit different but since I’m pretty certain you don’t want to dream a little dream of me, I’m inviting you to dream a little dream with me.

The Daily Health Post reports that there are actual health benefits to dreaming/daydreaming!

So, let’s step outside, walk on a leaf-strewn path, find a comfy bench at the park, lay in a hammock…and dream a little!

With all the serious facets of life as our foundation (faith, family, health, etc.), it’s fun to dream of the “what if’s” and the “I wonder’s” as long as our contentment meter doesn’t get out of whack.

Since I only know the dreams rumbling around in my head (and it’s my birthday!) I’ll get the ball rolling. See if anything resonates in your own heart.

A house — tiny, small, or on stilts, I don’t care…
as long as it’s in the NC mountains…
with a view, or at least the feel, of the mountains surrounding me.
(The perfect writing nook, wouldn’t you agree?)
Did I mention the winding tree-shrouded private driveway leading up to it?
(Look, Brian! No grass to mow.)
Williams Sonoma
And don’t forget the chicken coop! I’ve already named three of my chickens:
Original Recipe, Extra Crispy, Grilled…I’m serious.
Bye Bye big bucks for organic eggs!

Umm, did I cross a line in naming my future chickens? Just keeping it real here! So how about you? What’s one thing you dream about doing or becoming?

My Friday Five – Changing Direction

When’s the last time you changed things up a bit?

You may remember from this post that my writing desk faced our busy city street. I enjoyed seeing vehicles whiz by and children playing on the swings in the park.

In fact, I enjoyed the outdoor activities so much that I often found myself gazing out the window instead of tapping on the keys. It was time for a change!

My awesome hubby gave up his bookshelf, bought me a comfy chair, and helped me turn the desk towards the wall. Immediately, my concentration level spiked. Now,when a visual break is needed, I simply swivel around, prop my feet up on the window ledge, and take it all in.

Even the smallest of changes can spark creativity. Driving a different route, moving furniture, cooking something out of the norm, etc.

Go ahead, give it a try and watch the sparks fly! (No, I do not consider this a poem. ha!)

Christmas in This Old House

Our house turned 100 years old this year.

There are some things I truly love about this gray-haired lady:

  • Character oozes from its nooks and crannies
  • Stories told of those married in our home way back when
  • My writing nook upstairs

While I enjoy this old place year-round, it’s at Christmastime, when she decides to don her bows, fresh fir, Shiny Brites, and greenery that I love her the most.

What brings a smile to your face upon walking into your home during the Christmas season?

Beauty in the Mundane

My writing nook

Today’s view

My writing nook, tucked beneath the eaves of our 100 year old home, beckons me like a familiar friend in need of company.

The rhythmic beat of words bang to life as the instrumental music of George Winston sweeps through the silence of this old house.

A solitary cloudless sulphur butterfly flitters across the window bearing the message of Psalm 46:10 – Be still and know that I am God.

I cease creating devotions and devote myself to the Creator.

Cobalt-blue skies
Boys in tie-dyed shirts and cut-off jeans enjoying a game of frisbee golf
People hurriedly driving by, each loved by their Maker. Do they know?
Trees clinging to their summer wardrobe

Life is a beautiful melody played out in the so-called mundane moments of one’s day.
