If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot. -Stephen King, On Writing
So, how does one strike a balance betwixt the two?
I don’t pretend to know, but I have decided to take a pro-active approach in 2012 by devising a reading/writing plan.
Goals:
- Read at least one book a week, rotating reference types with various genres
- Write at least one hour a day
- Maximize pockets of time in between appointments and exercising to read through writer’s magazine subscriptions
- Keep mini-moleskins handy for serendipitous moments
How do you find time to incorporate both reading and writing into your schedule?
What a great goal – I'd love to read a book a week! With teaching every other weekend and my Israel research, I'll need some serious discipline to read something that's not a reference of some sort.
I'm going to stay tuned to learn some tips. I've got a LOT of room for improvement on this front.
This was just the post I needed to read to refocus my writing goals for 2012. Would you mind if I "steal" every one of your goals and implement them for myself also? LOL
Susan, when I teach the next community ladies' study I will also have to spend most of my time on reference books…but in the meantime…:)
Allison, thanks for sharing! It's nice knowing I'm not alone on this journey.
Great goals! I've got to get busy figuring out a new schedule for me. Thanks for the reminder!
Thanks for sharing, Vonda! 🙂
You're awesome!
