SKY: 30 Days of Wonder Challenge

DAY 9: SKY

God’s sanctuary in the sky awaits us all. Take fifteen minutes to look, really look, at all the lights in the sky—the disc that is the moon, the Milky Way, the stars, even the planes that shoot across night’s canopy. Even if there’s light pollution, take note of the shadows and the textures above. As you observe the lights—those created by God and others crafted by humankind—reflect on the promise God made to Abraham thousands of years ago that his descendants would be more numerous than all the stars in the sky (Genesis 15:5).  Consider God’s faithfulness in your own life and journey.

How has God been faithful to you today?

Creating A Memorable Summer Vacation

When I saw these Butterfly Snacks on Facebook (compliments of Juggling With Kids) I couldn’t help but think of our own boy’s summer vaca’s.

As an only child, I was happy slapping mud pies into tin plates on my grandmother’s back steps for my imaginary customers, so coming up with summer ideas for two little boys didn’t exactly come naturally.

But I wanted to create good memories for our boys so I sought reinforcement via Focus on the Family. I purchased 4 books that are now out of print but were priceless at the time.

Thankfully, the internet now offers a plethora of resources for moms like me. In addition to Juggling With Kids, here are some more to enjoy with your children/grandchildren:

  • Thriving Family: A FREE summer activity calendar (takes only a moment to register)
  • Summer Ideas for Kids on Pinterest (awesome craft and food ideas)
  • 100 Summer Fun Ideas for Kids and Parents
  • Devo Kids, Summer Butterflies

Just like first impressions we’re given but one opportunity to create meaningful moments with our children. Let’s redeem the time!

DAY 5: CREATION

Creation beckons us to open or eyes to the wonders of God. Look for a place outside where all you can see is God’s creation. If you’re in an urban area, consider visiting a park and lying down under a tree where all you can see is its branches and slivers of sky above. Spend fifteen minutes simply sitting or resting in the place. Pay attention to the details-the textures, the colors, the intricate care with which God formed creation. Allow yourself to spontaneously respond to God in thanks and worship, celebrating the wonders of creation all around.

Oh, The Things We Do For Love

Once upon a time a Pappa-to-be purchased a Princess Tent for his granddaughter who was expected to arrive nine months ago today. He knew the time would come when her eyes would light up at the sight of a pink plastic blob with flags on top.
And the Pappa-to-be was right.
As you can see, Brian went out of his way to make Princess Piper feel right at home. Oh, the things we do for love!
We pop a tent, sit inside to assure her all is well, and make googly faces just to hear her giggle. It delights us when she’s tickled pink (pun intended).
So why are we surprised when our heavenly Father showers us with divine delights throughout the day? The sun rises, soft winds blow, vivid colors abound, and birds serenade us in perfect harmony. God could’ve created a black and white world for us and we would’ve never known the difference—but He didn’t.
Oh, the things He does for love.
Romans 1:19-20 – since what may be known about God is plain to them,
because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the
world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have
been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that
men are without excuse.
