A Season of Anticipation Begins

It’s the first day of Advent—a season of waiting, expecting, and hoping. Lit candles, Bible verses and times of quiet reflection sets our focus on the meaning of Christ’s birth.

If you’re not familiar with Advent, this is a great resource. In addition to Mark’s devotionals, I purchased Ann Voskamp’s new book The Greatest Gift: Unwrapping the Full Love Story of Christmas to accompany me on this journey to a more intentional, simpler, worship-filled Christmas.

The Advent wreath is a nice addition to the celebration but keep it as simple as you wish. Lighting a candle while reading the devotion may be the place to start. It’s not about the doing of the season, but the being

Be still and know that I am God.
Psalm 46:10

Do you celebrate Advent? If not, do you plan to give it a try?

Peace, An Inner Treasure

My prayer in all situations is “Lord, help me to follow well.” This has been especially so since we began the journey of selling our home a couple of months ago. I don’t want my trust to waver but sometimes it does.

Perhaps this is why yesterday’s reading from Jesus Calling by Sarah Young felt like a divine thump upon my spirit—and maybe I’m not alone as a new week unfolds before us all today. I pray you will be blessed.

“Take time to be still in my Presence. The more hassled you feel, the more you need this sacred space of communion with Me. Breathe slowly and deeply. Relax in My holy Presence while My Face shines upon you. This is how you receive My Peace, which I always proffer to you.

Imagine the pain I feel when My children tie themselves up in anxious thoughts, ignoring My gift of Peace. I died a criminal’s death to secure this blessing for you. Receive it gratefully; hide it in your heart. My peace is an inner treasure, growing within you as you trust in Me. Therefore, circumstances cannot touch it. Be still, enjoying Peace in My Presence.”

Psalm 46:10; Numbers 6:25-26

Is there some specific way I can pray for you today? Feel free to leave it here, FB message or email. I count it a privilege.

Our Soul Whisperer

Be still and know that I am God.
Psalm 46:10a
Be still: Stems from the verb rapha. It could be translated as, “cause yourselves to let go.”
Learning to say no is part of the outward equation but this term takes stillness to a deeper, more meaningful level. Be still speaks of a quietness that resides within as a result of knowing who God is:
I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.
Psalm 46:10b

He is King.
Ruler of all.
Omniscient.
Omnipresent.
Our Soul Whisperer.

What can we release today because of the confidence anchored in our heavenly Father?

Beauty in the Mundane

My writing nook

Today’s view

My writing nook, tucked beneath the eaves of our 100 year old home, beckons me like a familiar friend in need of company.

The rhythmic beat of words bang to life as the instrumental music of George Winston sweeps through the silence of this old house.

A solitary cloudless sulphur butterfly flitters across the window bearing the message of Psalm 46:10 – Be still and know that I am God.

I cease creating devotions and devote myself to the Creator.

Cobalt-blue skies
Boys in tie-dyed shirts and cut-off jeans enjoying a game of frisbee golf
People hurriedly driving by, each loved by their Maker. Do they know?
Trees clinging to their summer wardrobe

Life is a beautiful melody played out in the so-called mundane moments of one’s day.
