Iron sharpens iron. And one man sharpens another. Proverbs 27:17 ESV
“I love your sermon notes, Cathy! I’ve been trying to take a computer-sabbatical on Sundays, so these have been great to read on Monday mornings.”
Susan Stilwell recently left the above comment for one of my Sunday Snippets posts. As I read it, a faint but divine shrill pierced my conscience. Could God possibly be calling me to a computer-sabbatical on Sundays as well?
After a few weeks (I’m a slow learner), I realized the depth of Susan’s comment. God used it to sharpen — awaken — my discernment in regards to the Sabbath.
As a result, I now plan to take notes on Sundays, but post them on Monday mornings. Sundays on Mondays, if you will.
Yet another reminder of how melodic the shrill of steel-on-steel can be in a Christ-follower’s life.
Where would we be without one another?
Cathy, I loved this post. I remember reading Susan's comment on the day she wrote it. That's a good lessson to learn-if only I could get it through my head! Honestly, the computer is my sanity outlet on the weekends…and here lately during the week as well. Thanks for your truthful…but loving posts. Love you, sweet friend!
Love to you too, Jamie!
God prompts His children in different ways. He knows our hearts. What may imprison one, frees another. I grew up thinking it was sinful to cut grass on Sundays. Oh, the things we crowd our minds with when all it really needs is truth from God's Word.
Please don't let the enemy discourage you from enjoying your sanity-outlet. I know He uses communication from others to encourage you greatly. If He desires a computer-sabbatical for you, you'll know it. Rest in His provision. 🙂
Cathy, most of my family still think it's a sin to do any type of yardwork on Sunday whatsoever! They think it's a sin to do a lot of things, quite honestly. Thanks for your encouragement. Love you!
Therein lies the beauty of knowing the Word of God for ourselves and resting in it.
I love and appreciate your continued witness to the world around you, Jamie.
It's funny that this was your topic today because Ryan and I were just talking about the fact that we need to stop using Sunday afternoons (when I'm not working) to actually rest from work (yard & house), computers, etc. This post just affirmed what we've been thinking. Looking forward to Sundays on Mondays.
Thank you so much sweet friend! I left that legalistic church over 10 years ago, and I wouldn't go back now for anything. Though my family still think that I was wrong to leave the church, I'm much happier now! Most of them quite honestly resent the fact that I'm not there anymore. I really think they resent it because of the fact that they can't control me during the services. Thank you for your continued prayers and encouragement. Love you!
Thanks, Allison. Nothing compares to God's perfect timing. 🙂
How I love that steel-on-steel shrill! Funny timing — I had to break my rule last night 🙁 I spent about an hour polishing up a post because I had to be gone all day today with my daughter. PTL for GRACE!
But honestly, it's really made a difference for my husband and me. It's amazing how relaxed you become when you shut down the laptop and leave the electronics to charge.
I can't wait for Sundays on Mondays! Thanks, Cathy!!
I was just thinking about this as well as I've been on "vacation" The sermons on Sundays always motivate me to post, and if I don't write it down (or type it in) immediately, it loses momentum. Any suggestions?
Hi Celeste! Thanks for stopping by. In addition to taking notes during the sermon I also pick up a CD of the sermon after the service, which helps tremendously if I forget a particular point.
I look forward to reading your notes!
You said it Susan – GRACE! It's obviously making a difference overall — what a blessing. 🙂 I'm already looking forward to next Sunday afternoon. Ahhh… 🙂
I've tried a computer sabbatical several times, but so far it hasn't lasted very long. 🙁
Am praying for God to make clear what He wants me to do!
Well Vonda, this is my first attempt at a computer sabbatical. 🙂 When I blow it, I will remember Susan's word from today — GRACE! 🙂
