Friday Fave: Active Link

Meet my new geeky best friend, Active Link, by Weight Watchers.

The flash drive clicks into either a clip that can be worn beneath your shirt or into a holder that can be worn around the neck. Unlike a pedometer, Active Link measures all your movements—a benefit that immediately piqued my curiosity.

A few others in Weight Watchers (who had already taken the AL plunge) shared how the gadget gave them an incentive to exercise more but I admit, I was not convinced. But having recently made some serious strides in eating healthier, I was game to try!

From the moment I slid the gadget into place my goal-oriented self became happy, happy, happy. If it only registers at 60% by mid-day, I find myself organizing a small area, sneaking in an extra walk, parking further from my destination, or pumping up my 70’s music (my favorite!)

One can’t go wrong with a gadget packaged in a bright green box. Gotta love it!

“The Birds” Coming to the Big Screen Tonight!

As a Hitchcock fan, I was delighted to learn that our local Simpsonville theater, Great Escape, will be showing The Birds (one of my favorites!) TODAY only on the big screen at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Is that hot buttered popcorn and Cherry Coke I smell? Okay, so I’ll only enjoy one handful of corn and a few sips of soda, but Tippi Hedren, Rod Taylor, and hovering black birds will keep me distracted.

Come out and join us if you like!

Sunday Snippets – One Pursuit

In a rushed, distracted, and worried world how do we pursue God above all else? How do we make intimacy with God our top priority?

Kyle Estepp not only taught from Luke 10:38-42 Sunday morning at Summit, he brought it. I encourage you to listen online this week, but for today’s purpose I sense this is all the Lord would have me share:

Martha was fuming about dinner; Mary was feasting on every word that came from the mouth of God.

Martha was troubled by many things; Mary chose the one thing.

Martha was distracted; Mary was focused.

Martha responded to Jesus in the light of circumstances; Mary responded to the circumstances in the light of Jesus.

Martha told Jesus what to do; Mary listened for what Jesus wanted her to do.

Martha left Jesus to go to work; Mary left the work to go to Jesus.

Martha initiated for Jesus; Mary responded to Jesus.

Martha spoke to Jesus; Mary heard from Jesus.

Martha was dutiful; Mary was devoted.

– Howard Baker, Does Jesus Prefer the Ideal Worker or the Ideal Worshipper?

If our friends and family were to say what is most important to us—what we value most—based on our choices, how would they answer?

**As with all the Snippets, I try to jot down everything verbatim, but it’s not always possible. To listen to the sermon in its
entirety, I invite you to visit Summit’s site.

Friday Fave – God’s Promptings

In this recent post I hinted at an idea the Lord gave me while preparing for the introduction to our study Abiding in Christ, by Andrew Murray and Bo Stevens.

The idea bubbled to the surface as I imagined the disciples walking past a nearby vineyard following their last supper with Christ. The bread and the wine still lingering on their lips would become even more meaningful as Jesus taught on the Vine and the branches—a union that complements the Lord’s Supper beautifully.

As I closed out our introduction night, the juice and crackers were passed. We had a time of self-examination while David Teems (More Hope CD) played in the background. Afterwards, an amazing group of women from various backgrounds, denominations and churches came together as one to celebrate the One who makes an abiding relationship with a holy God possible.

To God be the glory!

We Will Never Forget

Will you join me today in praying for the families of those who were killed on September 11, 2001, as well as the thousands of military families who’ve lost loved ones as a result of this attack?

If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
