One of my favorite Christmas gifts came in the form of 14 discs, penned by Flora Thompson between 1939 and 1943.
What makes Lark Rise to Candleford a fave:
- Breathtaking scenery. Late 19th century England countryside at its best.
- Characters. In every sense of the word. Some sweet, some sassy.
- Wholesome plots. How often can you say that these days?
- Minnie, the maid. She’s my favorite character of all. Quirky and a true delight.
Lark Rise to Candleford is shown on ETV Saturday and Sunday nights at 7:00. Check your local listing for more information.
Or, if you prefer to clear 34 episodes (and counting) off the DVR, pick up the complete collection here. You won’t be disappointed.
British Classics. It’s my one weakness.
If you’re a fan, who is your favorite character and why?
Dorcas Lane has to be my favorite character. I love her wit, wisdom, beauty, slim waistline, humor, weaknesses and, well, just everything about her!
Marilyn S.
Cathy,
I've never heard of this but it sounds very interesting. My mom always love Mr. Bean (isn't he British) — she would laugh just saying his name.
It's good to know of other good stuff out there.
Have a great weekend, Love, Hester 😉
Cathy–
This is definitely something I am going to check out. (I am afraid my lack of is showing as I have never heard of British classics, etc…) Thanks for sharing and expanding my entertainment experiences.
Marilyn, I especially appreciate Dorcas' slim waistline too. ha! I didn't know such waistlines existed. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
Hester and Kim — let me know what you think about Lark Rise once you've had the pleasure of viewing it. 🙂 You're in for a treat!
Cathy, you know how much I enjoy this wonderful series.I always laugh when I think of your comment about Queenie! I love all of the characters.
It's true, Dee Dee! 🙂 Wise, very wise.
