Actually, that’s not the question.
For me, the question is how often to blog?
In 2008, I shot for a daily post, but recently have tried posting only a few days a week. I applaud those who make this work, but I’m not convinced it’s for me.
Here’s why. When posting several times a week versus a few, my creative radar subconsciously kicks into gear, shifting effortlessly from green alert (low probability) to orange (high probability) in search of a potential post. I find I’m more sensitive to the daily details of what’s happening around me, and most importantly, what is happening within me.
Yes, I could jot down those daily ideas and simply spread them out over a few weeks, but for me, that’s missing the point, which is: the process is of greater value than the results when all is said and done.
This is because every single “alert” is an opportunity to see God at work in the details of my life and those around me. It’s an opportunity to thank Him and to worship—and any time I can increase those moments, I will.
I have a feeling you will too.
WOW, Cathy – you actually did daily posts?? I can't imagine that. But you're exactly right about the process. A lot of times we have to try different things to see what works for us, and we can't be afraid to change when things are working out.
Great thoughts!!
I did starting out, Susan, and then I switched to most days. Now, I'm going to shoot for most days during the week, but rest on the weekends. 🙂 I try to keep my posts brief, so that helps when gathering content. Thanks for stopping by!
Posting daily–I can't imagine. But I completely about keeping my eyes open to what's around me that I can share with others. Nature gives me lots to work with, as you know from visiting my blog.:)
You're so right, Ellen. 🙂 Well, when I began blogging in 2008, my blogging "mentor" was blogging daily so I thought it was the norm. That included weekends! Thankfully, I don't feel the need to do that anymore but I do look forward to posting a bit more frequently than I have over the past couple of weeks. 🙂
Sounds like a plan, Cathy. I'm still debating my 3X a week. I think it's a little easier since I have specific things for each post.
But it still takes a lot of time, especially when I add in the once every other week Christian Communicators post and once a month Inspire a Fire post.
That's all the writing I'm doing right now. One day I'd like to get back to writing a BOOK!
Sounds like a lot of writing to me, Vonda…and I'm thankful 🙂 I always enjoy your posts.
